DRI / Reduced Iron Powder Briquetting Solution

Under the global low-carbon and green metallurgy trend, Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) has become a key alternative to traditional blast furnace iron. However, DRI and reduced iron powder are porous, high surface area, prone to reoxidation and even self-ignition, posing storage, transportation, and operational risks.

Reduced Iron Briquetting Machine

Applicable Materials

  • DRI powder and fine sponge iron
  • Primary / secondary reduced iron powder
  • Gas-based or coal-based by-product fines
  • Iron scales and oxidized iron fines
  • Dust and iron-containing solid waste from steel plants

Process Flow

Before briquetting, DRI raw materials need pretreatment to ensure block quality.

  1. Sealed storage and screening of DRI / reduced iron raw materials
  2. Particle size control (≤ 5 mm) and crushing if necessary
  3. Quantitative addition of binder (water, molasses or special formula)
  4. Dual-shaft mixing to ensure uniformity
  5. High-pressure roller cold briquetting (100–200 MPa)
  6. Block screening and material recycling
  7. Natural curing or low-temperature drying
  8. Finished product storage and safe transport

DRI storage → Screening → Crushing → Mixing → Briquetting → Drying → Storage & Transport

Core Equipment

  • Sealed storage and feeding system (anti-oxidation, dust-proof)
  • Dual-shaft mixer (for high-density iron powder)
  • High-pressure roller briquetting press / briquetting machine (DRI specialized)
  • High wear-resistant roller and die system
  • Screening, conveying and automatic recycling system

Advantages

  • High-density, stable blocks, resistant to powdering
  • Significantly reduces reoxidation and self-ignition risks
  • High compressive strength, suitable for long-distance transport
  • Greatly reduces dust, improving production environment
  • Stable furnace performance, improving smelting efficiency
  • Suitable for continuous, large-scale industrial production

Applications

EAF steel plants, DRI production enterprises, steel smelting plants, foundries, powder metallurgy industry, and iron-containing solid waste recycling and low-carbon metallurgy demonstration projects.
